CACTUS Rides 2024

CACTUS (CATS & COWS) Rides — August 3rd and October 5, 2024

What is better than one fall CACTUS (COWs and CATs Tandeming in Unison with Style) ride? How about two CACTUS rides!! Two years ago we coordinated a joint ride with the CATS out of Petrifying Springs Park in Kenosha. Great turnout from both clubs, so we repeated it last year. This year we will add a second ride to the CACTUS schedule which will start at Silver Lake County Park in Salem.

Thanks to Greg Browning of CATS for developing the acronym and the routes! As always, you should be a member of COWs or CATs to participate in the joint rides.

Dates and general ride descriptions are below.

8/3/24 – Lake2lakes Ride – beginning from Silver Lake County Park, Salem, WI.

The ride visits four lakes in SE Wisconsin. Approximately 1/3 of the route goes through lakeside neighborhoods and 2/3 of the route is on country roads connecting the lakes. Most of the country roads are low traffic, but there are a few stretches with moderate traffic. The route is a mix of hills and flat sections. There are a few short steep grades. The 45 mile route visits all four lakes, while the 29 mile option cuts out Bohner Lake. The ride begins at Silver Lake Park, visits Silver Lake, Twin Lakes, Powers Lake, and Bohner Lake before returning to Twin Lakes for lunch at Wild Child’s Restaurant and ice cream at Tom’s Straw Hat. We then ride the final seven miles back to the cars at Silver Lake.

10/5/24 – Kenosha Lakeshore Ride, beginning from Petrifying Springs Park, Kenosha, WI

The ride will start and end at Kenosha’s Petrifying Springs Park. We are planning to have a picnic lunch at the park biergarten afterwards. The 36-mile route is basically a down and back on trails and low-traveled streets with great views of the Kenosha Lakeshore. The 46-mile route adds a northern loop on the paved and very nice Pike River Pathway and the Kenosha County Bike Trail.
